England’s planning system shapes new development and the use of land all over the country with the aim of achieving outcomes that are positive for people, the economy and the environment.
Local plans have an economic, social and environment role to play in ensuring that development is sustainable. Local plans draw on the development plan and the sustainable community strategy.
Local Plans are where the big decisions on planning for the future of communities and land are made. They set out the long-term strategy for the development of the area covered by each local planning authority. So, if you want to have your say in plans for the future of your city, town, village or neighbourhood it is important to get involved in the Local Plan.
